OEM sourcing checklist

Plan the physical installation before flight testing

A fiber drum should be evaluated as both a sourced component and a mounted UAV component. Current product specifications, target cost, quantity, drum position, outlet, fiber route, payout direction, speed, and payload margin all affect the next sample or flight test.

The installation review

Check the available mounting envelope and the drum's effect on weight, balance, and clearance. Define the payout direction and make sure the route avoids sharp bends, hot surfaces, moving parts, propellers, and points where the fiber could snag or rub. The outlet should be supported so the line leaves the drum in a repeatable way.

Before flight testing, document the target speed, length, weather, take-off and recovery procedure, inspection points, and stop conditions. These details allow an OEM or integrator to distinguish a drum design issue from a platform or routing issue.
